Will's Field Study Wednesday, November 30, 2022 Sound Map: On October 9, I decided to create a sound map as a part of my observations (Roughly 5 minutes). Below you will find a "description" as well as an image of this. I noticed a lot of insects from all around me, especially in the tall grass where the pond normally would be. I heard a tree frog over in a tree near the sandy area (I guessed the general area, and then pinpointed the location after the time was up, and it matched up well). I never realized until know how many sounds you could hear that weren't natural. I heard people talking, footsteps, and a lot of cars, which makes sense, as the trails are right next to M31. I also heard quite a few birds, which I identified as some crows and a hawk (I think). Sketches: On September 27, 2022, I created some sketches of different types of leaves in my area. Will's Field Study Wednesday, November 30, 2022 Field Visit on Sunday, November 27, 2022 Field Notes: Time of Visit - 12:00-12:30 (afternoon) Climate Conditions - Cloudy, a nice light breeze, a light sprinkle of rain on and off Temperature - 42°F Length of Day - 9 hours and 22 minutes (Sunrise at 7:50 AM, sunset at 5:13 PM) Observations (some also fit into the "Changes" category): Similarly to my last visit, I observed quite a few different animals or signs of those animals. I heard a squirrel chattering to the the north of my plot of land and I heard a lot of birds calling throughout the area, even seeing a few fly overhead (too fast to take a picture unfortunately). I also was able to find lots of signs of animals. I saw lots of deer tracks walking from the oaks, where I saw a lot of acorns on the ground. Will's Field Study Monday, November 14, 2022 Field Visit 4 on November 13, 2022 Field Notes: Time of Visit - 12:50-1:20 (afternoon) Climate Conditions - 7 mph breeze, light snow falling (flurries), chilly Temperature - 35°F Length of Day - 9 hours, 49 minutes (Sunrise at 7:33 AM, sunset at 5:23 PM) Observations: The biggest (and most obvious) observation that I noticed was that everything was covered in snow. This was new this time, as it was one of the first days of the year that we got any snow. Below you can find pictures that really show how snow covered everything in the forest was. I also observed that the pond has not frozen over yet. This make sense, as it has only just gotten cold enough to start snowing, and it doesn't just freeze immediately. It still had a layer of slush over the top, and I think by maybe my next visit, if it continues to get colder, the pond might freeze over.
